Black Myth Wukong Tips and Tricks : The game where you’re going to explore the challenging adventure of Sun Wukong, Black Myth: Wukong, is inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. It has quickly become the second highest in peak concurrent players, with expectations of reaching 40 million concurrent players shortly. This puts it just behind PUBG and ahead of Elden Ring in terms of peak player count on its first day of release.
Several mechanisms are designed to keep players engaged without getting bored. Tackle everything in the game, you’ll need some tips and tricks that I’ll share to help you progress faster. There are various systems, enemies, and mechanics, especially for new players, both in the genre and Black Myth: Wukong.
Game Progress is linear.
The gameplay in Black Myth: Wukong isn’t linear in the traditional sense. You’ll travel from one shrine or checkpoint to another, dispatching enemy Yaoguais (demons) along the way, with minimal grinding required Focus on making your way from one boss to the next—there are multiple bosses and boss-like enemies to conquer.
Your armor and weapons also progress linearly. You won’t need to unlock many things; just reach certain shrines and craft recipes for new equipment as you advance. Be sure to unlock Stances as early as possible in the game. These become crucial during combat. There are three stages: Smash, Pillar, and Thrust, each offering more options when fighting bosses.
No Medicine Until Chapter 2
At the start, you’ll collect many ingredients, like plants and mushrooms, but you won’t be able to use them for medicine until Chapter 2. From the beginning, experiment with different weapons and armour without fear of making mistakes. As you progress, new staff and armour will become available, allowing for continuous improvement.
Game over? Not quite.
Unlike traditional games where death means losing valuable resources, Black Myth: Wukong allows you to keep your in-game currency and other items even after dying. This means you can focus on mastering combat mechanics and learning from each enemy without frustrating setbacks.
Don’t worry about death—it’s more of an opportunity to improve rather than a threat to your progress. You’ll realize this within a few hours of playing. Black Myth: Wukong is more approachable than traditional Souls-like games, where the fear of death looms large.
Power from Your Staff and Stances
Your staff is your major source of power, allowing you to shift between different stances and adapt to various play styles. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock stances like the aggressive Smash stance and the defensive Thrust stance. Each stance provides unique advantages, letting you tailor your approach to different combat scenarios and bosses.
Mastering the use of your staff and stances will strengthen you and help you respond more efficiently to enemy attacks. Use your skill points or sparks wisely based on the bosses you encounter. Applying the right skills multiple times to a boss will make it easier to progress to the next section.
Remember the glowing Embers?
The map in Black Myth: Wukong isn’t like traditional maps. Navigate, you’ll need to rely on glowing embers, which act like light markers, similar to the Sites of Grace, and save points in the Elden Ring. Following these glowing embers will lead you to important locations, including the Keeper’s Shrine. Pay close attention to side quests, collectibles, and secret areas along the way. I strongly recommend always keeping an eye on these glowing embers to ensure continuous progression.
Keepers’ Shrine and Talent Points for Improvement
The Keeper’s Shrine plays a crucial role in the game, offering several benefits:
- Restoring your health and resources.
- Allowing travel between discovered shrines.
- Brewing and crafting to earn new items and upgrades.
Additionally, you can use the Self-Advance option at the Keeper’s Shrines to allocate talent points to skills and perks. This takes some guesswork out of improving your character’s abilities.
Look for meditation spots whenever possible.
Meditation spots are scattered throughout the game, offering a place to rest and reflect. These spots also reward you with free skill points, with no strings attached. You’ll find these areas usually off the beaten path, marked by a modest pyre with burning flames. Meditating here is a quick way to earn additional skills and further refine your character.
In addition to these benefits, many amazing abilities allow you to transform when your health bar is low. If you’re out of health and in a pinch against a boss, simply transform to replenish your health bar and deal substantial damage without worrying about dying.

Keep an eye on enemy patterns and strategies.
The game may have a linear progression, but it offers a large map with multiple paths leading to optional content such as minibosses, side quests, collectibles, upgrades, and secret areas. By paying close attention to enemy attack patterns, you can learn their moves and find openings for counterattacks. Don’t waste time when you see an opportunity—practice makes perfect, and soon you’ll be mastering these combat techniques.
Dodging is crucial. Learn new ways to evade enemy attacks and mix and match attack combinations. The game’s flask allows you to create powerful items, health boosts, and buffs. Experiment with different drinks and soaks to find what works best for you.
Experiment with Alternative Combat Styles
While you might be inclined to stick with the Smash stance for your staff, remember that your staff has two other stances, each with its pros and cons. It’s important to experiment with these alternative combat styles to find what suits your playstyle best.
I recommend focusing on new crafting gear, looking for green spirits, and using your gourd sparingly. Don’t hesitate to explore everywhere and backtrack when necessary. As you unlock new items, you’ll be able to create better combinations for combat. Spend your Sparks wisely and take advantage of the free respec options.
Check with NPC stores regularly.
NPC stores in the game update their stocks as you progress. Be sure to check in with them regularly to upgrade your drinks and other items based on your needs.
