Black Myth: Wukong – Buddha’s Eyeballs Locations and Secret Boss Guide

Black Myth: Wukong is a mystical action-packed blend of Chinese mythology that is unique in every way. Among some of the most interesting quests within Chapter 2, this has been done in Fright Cliff. There, one can obtain Buddha’s Eyeballs in order to unlock the secret boss. These six Buddha’s Eyeballs are distributed throughout the Fright Cliff area in a series of Buddha head statues. Here’s a step-by-step walkthrough of each eyeball and what you need to do with them, as well as how to unlock and defeat the secret boss Shigandang.

Mini-Quest Overview: The Buddha’s Eyeballs

In Chapter 2, when entering the Fright Cliff region, you’ll see a Buddha head inside a hole in the ground. Touching it lets you retrieve a Buddha’s Eyeball, which will cause a mini-quest to get six eyeballs. Finding the Buddha heads may take you quite a while, though; they do have a sound effect on themselves as they chant, so that shouldn’t be too much of a problem as you explore. After grabbing all six Buddha’s Eyeballs, you are able to summon the secret boss Shigandang. He leaves rather tasty drops.

Locations of Buddha’s Eyeball

The following is a listing of all six locations of the Buddha’s Eyeball in Fright Cliff along with procedures on how to acquire them:

1. Buddha’s Eyeball #1

  • Location: At the start of Fright Cliff. It is right by the Squall Hideout Shrine.
  • Details: After having won over the King of Flowing Sands and the Second Prince at the end of Sandgate Village, take the right-hand path across the bridge. On passing through an archway, you’ll find the first Buddha head statue a few metres on Fright Cliff. You need only to touch the artifact to obtain the first Buddha’s Eyeball.

2. Buddha’s Eyeball #2

  • Location: Inside a cave near the Squall Hideout Shrine.
  • Details: From the Squall Hideout Shrine, go left into the cave. You should see a man statue who is crouched down. Stay left and you will find a light shrine area holding the second Buddha’s Eyeball. Pick it up from the Buddha head chanting statue.

3. Buddha’s Eyeball #3

  • Location: Wooden platforms overlooking the Man-In-Stone path.
  • Details: Go back to the Squall Hideout Shrine and move right. You will see three paths: one on the left upper and one in the middle lower, and then another to the right, protected by enemies. Move right and after you climb two flights of stairs, you will find wooden constructions that lead you to the end of which is the fourth Buddha’s Eyeball.

4. Buddha’s Eyeball #4

  • Location: On the upper path left of the Man-In-Stone path.
  • Details: You can find the fourth Buddha’s Eyeball from the wooden platforms on which you found the third one. Follow along the cliffside on the left-most path and, half-way down the path, the Buddha head will be resting on your left.

5. Buddha’s Eyeball #5

  • Location: On the balcony to the right of the Mother of Stones boss arena.
  • Details: The fifth Buddha’s Eyeball is located just north of the central cave in Fright Cliff. From the path where you found Buddha’s Eyeball #4, head to the end, where you will find a shield-wielding enemy. Enter the cave and head right, as if you are exiting to the Rockrest Flat Shrine. Instead, head left; look to the balcony just past the Mother of Stones boss arena for the Buddha head.

6. Buddha’s Eye #6

  • Where: Left of the Rockrest Flat Altar
  • Details: The last of the six Buddha’s Eyes is located to the left of the Rockrest Flat Altar. Walk left along the wall of the cliff from the altar. You will find the last of the six Buddha head statues leaning up against the wall, thus ending your search.

What to Do with the Buddha’s Eyes

Take the six Buddha’s Eyeballs collected to the Stone Vanguard boss arena. It is located near the Rockrest Flat Shrine. If you haven’t completed Stone Vanguard Yaoguai, do this one first. After defeating the boss, take a look at the entrance of the boss arena to find a big boulder.

You will be asked to put in all six Buddha’s Eyeballs after you touch this boulder. After doing so, the boulder will come into life and will be turned into the hidden boss Shigandang.

How to fight Shigandang

Shigandang: strong, slow boss. He will cause a great amount of damage with his smash attacks. He can throw and release area-of-effect shockwaves which are very heavy- hitting but take a very long time to get there. Timing is the key when avoiding these shockwaves. His patterns are the same as the Stone Vanguard’s but more complex and lethal. Be prepared to use dodges at just the right times, do not hold up too long close to him.

Reward for beating Shigandang: two rare items

  • Heart of Stone: This item can produce the Cloud-Pattern Stone Staff, a versatile and high-powered staff that has unique characteristics.
  • Skandha of Feeling: It’s the special item which has mysterious but meaningful purposes that would be seen much later in the game.

Conclusion

Black Myth: Wukong provides the mini-quest Buddha’s Eyeballs, which really is a treasure for the players to unlock after studying how to get at it in the Fright Cliff region, following the sequence of Buddha head clues. The six Buddha’s Eyeballs discovered make available a quite brutal fight with Shigandang for all who dare battle him, offering good stuff and liquids.

This guide should get you all set up to finish the mini-quest for Buddha’s Eyeball and triumph over Shigandang. Best of luck on your travels!
